Dr. Kris Boyle joined the Department of Journalism and Mass Communications in June 2008. He earned his doctorate in Mass Communications from Texas Tech University. He earned both a bachelor's degree in Print Journalism (2001) and a master's degree in Mass Communications (2005) at Brigham Young University. While a student at BYU, Kris worked in several capacities at NewsNet, the unversity's converged newsroom. This included stints as a campus editor, news editor, and managing editor, where he was responsible for the daily operations of the newsroom.

Professionally, Kris spent more than two years working as a beat reporter for the Idaho Falls Post Register. His primary responsibilities included reporting on a wide range events and issues, including education, crime, and politics. He was awarded second place in sports writing by the Idaho Press Club for a story he wrote on the relationship between parents and high school coaches.

Kris entered graduate school to prepare for university teaching. As a graduate student, he has taught several courses, including News Writing, Mass Media and Society and Editing. He has been active in academic research, with interests in media ethics, online journalism, and civic journalism. He has recieved a top paper award and Carol Burnett Media Ethics award from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (AEJMC).

When not at work, Kris enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and son. He also loves to run and enjoys all kinds of sports.
